7 Things to Consider Before You Train at a Calisthenic Park

Calisthenics are a great way to get and stay in shape. Calisthenics are a type of workout that does not use free weights but rather your own body weight. My name is Jeff and I’ve been a personal trainer for 6 years at a cross-fit gym. I work in the calisthenics section and I teach people how to use their own body weight to their advantage.

There is a calisthenics park in the back of our complex, here I’ll be telling you what to look for and consider before doing this yourself. Things such as: Is Calisthenics right for you, what to look for in a park, what you are trying to obtain, are you ready for a change, the bar brothers program, and travel.

Is Calisthenics Right for You

Do you want to get fit? Do you want a safer, healthier alternative to traditional gyms? If you answered yes to either of these questions, calisthenics is for you. Calisthenics will help you get fit in a way that doesn’t destroy your body, you won’t be overdoing it because you will only be able to lift your own weight.

Calisthenics also helps build stabiliser muscles that traditional weight training only does for the most disciplined.

What to Look for In a Calisthenics Park

When you’re looking for a good calisthenics park you’re going to want to find one that has a lot of variety. Sure, you could go to a school playground and use their monkey bars, but it would be better if you could find a park that specialises in calisthenics. Ideally, you’ll want to find a park that has an open area with plenty of space if there are more people there than you. You’ll also want them to be an array of “equipment”.

I put equipment in parenthesis because it’s mostly stationary bars and things of that sort that are used. On top of having space for you and your friends, you’re going to want a park that has a track! Every good workout starts with a run. This gets your blood flowing, loosens you up, and warms up your muscles.

On top of that a little cardio never hurt anyone! Try to run a mile before the start of each workout if you can, if you can’t do what you think a good warmup is.

Are You Trying to Get Cut?

Calisthenics is perfect for getting cut. Traditional weight lifting works in two ways -building muscle and defining muscle. Calisthenics works mainly at defining muscle. With traditional weight lifting you can ascertain muscle mass that looks unnatural and unattractive. This is not possible with calisthenics. If you’re looking to be Arnold Schwarzenegger this isn’t the program for you.

Calisthenics will build muscle up to a certain point and then it will define those. The amount of muscle depends on your body weight -as calisthenics is entirely based on the lifting and manipulation of your own body weight. This is one of the biggest differences between them; you can’t get overly muscular doing calisthenics, you will look great though.

Are You Ready for A New Lifestyle?

Calisthenics is more than working out, it’s a lifestyle. You must eat right, exercise often, run, be active, etc. To live to your full potential, you need to be doing this more than once a week. It needs to become a routine for you. It shouldn’t take long for it to become a routine as it is quite enjoyable. I’ve never seen someone do this and complain after!

Calisthenics are a great way to stay in shape, but you must be committed.

Time Required and Traveling

The time required, and traveling are important questions. Calisthenics are normally chosen in part because you can do them anymore. You don’t want to choose a park that is a far distance from your home. If you can find a calisthenic park near you within 30 minutes of travel that would be ideal.

You don’t want to be driving long distances after a long workout when you’re tired -both mentally and physically.

Is Bar Brothers Workout Program Good For You?

Bar Brothers Posing for a pic

The bar brothers workout program is amazing. It’s a 12-week program that will help you learn the ways of the calisthenic lifestyle. It’s a 12-week comprehensive full bodyweight training system. It has levels to help even beginners learn to become masters. They describe it as the purest way to get in shape. It develops all of your muscles, not just targeted ones in the gym.

And all you need is a bar. One bar and you can get ripped, find a purpose in life, and become your best self. Their secret is to rise above the surroundings, become a bar brother and make something of yourself. Their program has over 140 instructional videos on how to workout and become a better person in the process.

Do You Want to Become Strong?

Calisthenics gets you strong for real. Not just fluff muscles that exist for show. The muscles you get from this program are muscles that aren’t artificially produced, they’re produced through the most natural form of lifting -your own weight. By lifting your own weight, you will become strong in every muscle group. Not just your biceps and forearms.

Conclusion

Things you should consider before choosing a calisthenic park are things like -are you ready for the lifestyle, is it the right park for you, and are you trying to get cut or bulked. If you’re trying to bulk up then calisthenics are not right for you, they get you ripped. If you’re not ready for the lifestyle change then calisthenics are not right for you, this is a commitment.

You need to make sure you choose the right park, one that fits your needs! One with plenty of equipment, space, and preferably a track or trail to run. If you can find these things and meet these requirements, then you are ready to start training at a calisthenic park.
